‘Tis the season to get outside! Oregon is the gateway to the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, and it’s a mecca for adventurous hikers and leisurely wanderers alike. We’re entering that time of year where the sunshine outnumbers rain on the 5-day forecast, so the team at Spirit Mountain Casino put our heads together to share a few of our favorite hikes in the Beaver State. Here are the finalists:

Watchman Peak Trail – Crater Lake
A 1.6-mile climb is well-rewarded by 360-degree views of Crater Lake. Fields of alpine flowers and hemlocks line the trail – and once you start zigzagging along switchbacks, you’ll know that your reward is within reach. At the top of Watchman Peak, climb the fire tower to get one of the best views on Wizard Island, as well as all of Crater Lake National Park.

South Sister – Bend
With its far-reaching views, Oregon’s third tallest mountain makes the labor well worth it on this intensive day hike. You’ll climb more than 10,000 feet to reach the top, where you’ll be met with a snow-filled crater, a lake, and an expansive view that captures more than half the state. After the 6.25-mile hike to the top, give yourself an hour to explore the summit before you make your way back down.

Triple Falls Trail – Cascade Locks
Equal parts leisurely stroll, uphill hike, and intrepid scramble, this 3.2-mile hike is a great one if you want to be rewarded with a beautiful view. You’ll meet up with the junction of Horseshoe Trail Falls then wander along Oneonta Creek. A triple waterfall will signify that you’ve reached your destination. If you’re feeling adventurous, clamber up to Upper Oneonta Falls to get the best view of the house.

Trail of Ten Falls – Silver Falls State Park
This 8.7-mile loop will introduce you to one of the country’s best waterfall hikes. With ten unique falls, lush vegetation, and a setting that’s made it a highlight for film locations, you’ll get an eyeful on this low-key hike. Some waterfalls cascade over the trail while others trickle into some of the state’s most beautiful swimming holes.

Tire Mountain – Oakridge
Wander through old-growth forests, groves of wildflowers, and a view of  Diamond Peak, Bachelor, and the Three Sisters on this 7.6-mile trail. Located less than 15 miles from Oakridge, it’s an ideal setting to experience the quintessential landscapes that make Oregon such a visual treat.

Every hike deserves a reward after you’ve returned to the trailhead. When you’ve unlaced your hiking boots, make your way to Spirit Mountain Casino to play poker, slots, and a plethora of other games.
