Do you remember where you were when you first heard, “I’ll Make Love to You” or “MoTownPhilly?” This cappella trio known for romantic ballads and smooth harmonies is touted as the most successful male R&B group of all time, having sold more than 60 million albums worldwide. On April 6, Spirit Mountain Casino welcomes Boyz II Men to the Event Center stage!

In 1988, a group of five high school friends from the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts founded what was known as “Unique Attraction,” an R&B singing troupe inspired by the harmonies and routines of New Edition. In fact, the band was so motivated by New Edition that they eventually renamed their group, “Boyz II Men.” Shortly thereafter, the group met New Edition/Bell Biv DeVoe member and producer Michael Bivins, who signed them with a deal through his own Biv Ten Record company.

By 1991, Boyz II Men was a quartet featuring Michael McCary, Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman. The group released Cooleyhighharmony, a drum-heavy, new jack swing sound that featured brassier vocals and kick started the “hip hop doo wop” style of music. The band is often placed in the same category as The Four Tops, The Temptations and Smokey Robinson & the Miracles that made it a game-changing sensation in the 1990s. A number of popular acts begin to emulate and follow in the style of Boyz II Men, and for this reason, the group is often considered to have reignited the “boy band” craze, producing groups such as The Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC in the latter 90’s.

This year, Boyz II Men is kicking off a 36-show U.S. tour this month to promote their latest album, Twenty, in celebration of the group’s 20th anniversary. The record features 13 new songs, along with 8 classics rerecorded. Tickets go on sale Feb. 20th, so grab yours before it’s too late!
