Brian Setzer’s Rockabilly Riot Event Details

Dec 23, 2011 8:00pm
Doors open at: 7:00pm

Stray Cats/Brian Setzer Orchestra frontman Brian Setzer brings his Rockabilly Riot to Spirit Mountain Dec. 23rd. As the title implies, this takes him back to the rockabilly roots of the Stray Cats and away from the more swinging sound of his orchestra. Though we wouldn't be surprised if "Jump, Jive and Wail" works its way into the set.

Brian Setzer is a guitarist, singer and songwriter, most well known for his 1950’s style rockabilly revival and jazz-oriented sounds. As the frontman of Stray Cats and the Brian Setzer Orchestra, the multi-talented musician will bring his Rockabilly Riot to Spirit Mountain December 23rd!

Rockabilly, a portmanteau of “rock” and “hillbilly,” is one of the earliest styles of rock and roll music with western swing, boogie woogie and rhythm and blues influences. In January 1979, Setzer fronted the Stray Cats with upright bassist Lee Rocker and Slim Jim Phantom out of their Long Island hometown of Massapequa, New York. The trio recorded numerous hits, including “Stray Cat Strut,” “Sexy and 17,” and “Rock This Town,” which was listed as one of the top 500 most important songs in the history of rock and roll by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On October 15, 2006, the band was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.

In the mid-1990s, Setzer resurrected swing and jazz blues tunes when he formed The Brian Setzer Orchestra, a 17-piece ensemble band, which released four albums, a Christmas record and several other live albums between 1994 and 2002, including a cover of Louis Prima’s original “Jump, Jive an’ Wail.” Setzer was also honored with the Orville H. Gibson Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999. Since 2000, he has won three Grammy Awards and seven Grammy nods.

As the title implies, this show takes Setzer back to the rockabilly roots of the Stray Cats and away from the more swinging sounds of his orchestra. However, don’t be surprised if “Jump, Jive an’ Wail” works its way into the set! Join us as Spirit Mountain kicks off the holiday cheer with upbeat jams…Rockabilly style! Tickets are on sale now starting at $15. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.
