Randy Travis has entertained crowds with more than 20 studio albums and 30 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Song charts, 22 of which were top hits. At the start of his career, the country superstar was rejected by every major record label in Nashville for being “too country.” He finally got his breakthrough as a leading figure in the neo-traditional country genre when he released Storms of Life in the 1980s to popular acclaim, selling more than 4 million copies.
The release of that LP was a watershed moment in American music history as the cornerstone of the “new traditionalist” movement in Nashville, inspiring such upcoming artists such as Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw and Carrie Underwood. The singer followed that success with a string of platinum and multi-platinum records. In 1997, Travis switched gears and began focusing on a gospel career, which won him several Dove awards, including Album of the Year three times.
The multi-talented entertainer is also a well-known actor, appearing in such television series as The Rainmaker, Texas Rangers and Touched by An Angel. Travis is also a passionate philanthropist. In 1991, he took part in Voices That Care, a multi-artist project featuring the biggest names in music to raise money for the allied troops in the Gulf War. Travis sang alongside Garth Brooks, Kenny Rogers and Kathy Mattea. In his career, Travis has sold more than 25 million albums, won 6 Grammy awards and earned a much-deserved star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and membership in the cast of the Grand Ole Opry. Truly, Travis has cemented his status as one of the biggest country record sellers of all time.
