This American pop-rock band first gained fame in 1997 with its hit song, “Fly”, which appeared on the album Floored. This reggae fusion track was a completely different sound from anything else on the album and resulted in a huge success.
Original members Mark McGrath and Rodney Sheppard still lead the band with lead vocals and guitar and are now joined by three new members who have worked with Sugar Ray in the past. The band’s latest album, Music for Cougars, is a lively reappearance of their signature sound – and distinctly Sugar Ray. “I’m not going to say we made the best record of our career,” says McGrath. “That’s just so clichéd. But we did!”
After touring and recording non-stop since its 1995 debut with Lemonade and Brownies, the band took a break after the 2005 album, The Best of Sugar Ray. McGrath spent time co-hosting the nationally syndicated Extra, a popular entertainment news program, and also hosted Don’t Forget the Lyrics. Lead guitarist Sheppard spent time teaching music to kids in his neighborhood and started a family in his hometown of Newport Beach, CA.
By 2008, Sugar Ray was ready to get back in studio and is currently in the midst of its first full-scale tour after a long hiatus. On December 7, 2012, Sugar Ray will be coming right here to Spirit Mountain Casino, performing classic high-energy rock ‘n’ roll LIVE at the Main Event Center. It’s gonna be one great night of entertainment at the premier entertainment destination in the Northwest!
