Tony Bennett began his singing career as a young boy growing up in New York City. As the musician developed and grew into his signature voice, Bennett signed with Columbia Records and produced his first top hit, “Because of You” in 1951. His refined style to show and jazz tunes were featured in subsequent albums later that decade, forever solidifying him as a mainstay and superstar in the genre. In 1962, Bennett’s “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” helped make him a household name as it rose in popular acclaim.

After a minor slowdown in the 60’s and 70’s due to the advent of rock music, Bennett staged a comeback by expanding his appeal to the new MTV generation. With the help of his son, Danny, the singer slowly moved away from his traditional “Vegas” image and started performing in colleges and small theaters around the U.S. By 1986, Bennett was resigned to Columbia Records, and began to appear on late-night talk show circuit to meet with his younger, hipper audiences in person. When Bennett appeared alongside the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Flavor Flav at the MTV Video Music Awards, he officially bridged the generation gap as an artist who resonated with both the young and old.

To date, he has won 15 Grammy Awards, two Emmy Awards and has sold more than 50 million records worldwide. Bennett is also a celebrated painter, creating masterpieces under the alias “Benedetto,” which are on display in many institutions. Most recently, Bennett was chosen as the featured artist for the 2001 Kentucky Derby. Since his comeback more than three decades ago, Bennett shows no sign of slowing down…or retiring!
